Choose the quays for the Geneva most visitors picture: open lake views, a level promenade and the Bains des Pâquis nearby. The waterfront feels composed and grand; walk inland toward Rue de la Navigation and Rue des Pâquis and the mood switches to neighborhood restaurants and busier streets.
That contrast is the attraction, but also the booking trap. An inland street-facing room is a different proposition from one overlooking the water, and the lakefront roads are not traffic-free. It makes sense for a very early departure, airport-related work or a Palexpo-heavy visit, provided you check the actual door-to-venue journey rather than assuming everything is next door.
For sightseeing, the trade is poor: evenings become another trip into town, and a nearby terminal does not guarantee an easy walk with bags. Recent local forum advice generally favors sleeping centrally even before a flight. Choose this only when airport-side convenience is the point.
