Useful pools and spacious rooms, but uneven upkeep makes this a qualified pick. An aging, independent 3-star in North York, scored for what it is.

Toronto Don Valley Hotel and Suites is an aging, independent 3-star that makes more sense as a practical North York base than the resort its marketing suggests. We'd consider it for the spacious rooms, indoor pool and seasonal outdoor pool, particularly when plans center on this side of Toronto. Recent Expedia and Hotels.com guests frequently praise comfortable beds and friendly staff; several also find their rooms clean and good value.

The catch is inconsistent condition. Tripadvisor and Hotels.com reviews repeatedly describe dated rooms and overdue repairs, while recent Expedia feedback includes housekeeping misses alongside much happier stays. Some Deluxe-room guests report a fresher experience, so room category matters. Parking and breakfast cost extra, and a deposit applies. We'd skip it for a polished getaway or a trip built around walking to downtown sights.

• Best for: Budget-conscious North York visitors; Families wanting swimming pools; Travelers prioritizing room space

• Watch out for: Dated rooms and uneven maintenance; Inconsistent housekeeping; Parking, breakfast and deposit extras

• Location: Near Aga Khan Museum and Wynford station, but outside the downtown sightseeing core.

• Rooms: Spacious, often with balconies; condition varies, with some Deluxe rooms receiving stronger feedback.

• Cleanliness: Many guests report clean rooms, but recent housekeeping misses prevent an unqualified endorsement.

• Service: Friendly staff earn frequent praise, though reception and problem handling receive mixed feedback.

• Amenities: Indoor pool, seasonal outdoor pool, fitness facilities, restaurant and free Wi-Fi.

• Fees and surprises: Parking and breakfast are extra; a deposit applies. Confirm checkout time because official and booking-site listings differ.
