Axel's take: 9.2/10

An excellent arena-side base, with spacious rooms and service that earns its praise. an upscale 4-star boutique hotel beside Scotiabank Arena, scored for what it is.

Le Germain Maple Leaf Square is an upscale 4-star boutique hotel that gets the important things right: roomy accommodation, comfortable beds and genuinely helpful service. Recent Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise the cleanliness and staff, while strong overall ratings back up that enthusiasm. We'd put it high on the list for concerts, games or a downtown weekend, especially with Union Station and the waterfront close by.

The trade-offs are more about fit than failing basics. This is Toronto's busy sports district, not a quiet residential neighbourhood, and there's no pool. Breakfast and valet parking cost extra unless included in your booking. Some guests find the dark room styling and lighting less practical. Choose it for comfort and convenience; look elsewhere if swimming or a quieter neighbourhood setting matters most.

• Best for: concertgoers and sports fans; couples exploring downtown; business travelers arriving by train

• Watch out for: busy arena-side setting; no swimming pool; breakfast and valet parking extras

• Location: Beside Scotiabank Arena, with easy access to Union Station and downtown sights.

• Rooms: Spacious and comfortable; dark styling and subdued lighting may not suit everyone.

• Cleanliness: Consistently strong praise across recent guest reviews.

• Service: Friendly, responsive staff are a standout across Tripadvisor and Expedia.

• Amenities: Bar, breakfast service, free Wi-Fi and a 24-hour gym; no pool.

• Fees and surprises: Check breakfast and parking inclusions; both can carry additional charges.
