Axel's take: 8.8/10

A strong pick for design and dining, less so for guaranteed quiet. a design-led 4-star boutique hotel in Toronto’s Garment District, scored for what it is.

Ace is a design-led 4-star boutique hotel that earns its appeal through more than looks. Its concrete-and-plywood interiors won’t suit everyone, but Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise clean, comfortable rooms, genuinely helpful staff and a location made for exploring on foot. Alder’s wood-fired cooking, the suspended lobby lounge and Evangeline’s rooftop cocktails make it especially appealing for a food-and-culture weekend.

The trade-off is that this is a social hotel, not a quiet retreat. Guests flag weekend music, and the hotel’s current calendar confirms late-night DJ events. Smaller rooms can feel compact, while the gym attracts more qualified praise than the restaurants. There’s no pool, parking is off-site, and a mandatory nightly facility fee deserves attention. We’d choose it for atmosphere and neighborhood access; skip it if silence, conventional luxury or extensive leisure facilities matter most.

• Best for: design-minded city explorers; couples planning a food-and-culture weekend; travelers who enjoy lively hotel bars

• Watch out for: weekend music and nightlife noise; compact entry-level rooms; mandatory facility fee and off-site parking

• Location: Walkable Garment District base near Queen West, King West and plenty of dining.

• Rooms: Comfortable and distinctive, with deliberately spare finishes; choose the room category carefully for space.

• Cleanliness: A consistent strength across guest feedback, including recent Expedia reviews.

• Service: Warm, helpful staff are repeatedly singled out across Tripadvisor and Expedia.

• Amenities: Alder, lobby lounge, Evangeline rooftop bar and a compact gym; no swimming pool.

• Fees and surprises: Mandatory nightly facility fee; parking is at nearby off-site lots, with no valet.
