Axel's take: 8.4/10

A strong practical base, with in-room laundry compensating for compact rooms. a practical 3-star extended-stay hotel in quieter west Shinjuku, scored for what it is.

Tokyu Stay Nishi Shinjuku is a practical 3-star extended-stay hotel, and a strong pick if laundry matters more than lobby glamour. Refreshed in March 2024, it puts washer-dryers and microwaves in every room, with kitchenettes in selected categories. Recent Expedia and Trip.com guests repeatedly praise clean rooms, useful equipment and helpful staff. The quieter setting is another plus: Nishi-Shinjuku-gochome subway station is close, with convenience stores and casual food nearby.

The main compromise is space: entry-level doubles are just 15–16 square metres, and guests regularly mention tight luggage space. Shinjuku’s main station is roughly a 15–20-minute walk away, not outside the door. Housekeeping is limited, with full cleaning weekly for stays of seven nights or more. Breakfast arrangements are also changing, so confirm the current format. We'd skip it for spacious rooms or full-service hotel comforts.

• Best for: longer stays and light packers; solo travelers and practical couples; travelers preferring quieter surroundings

• Watch out for: compact entry-level doubles; limited housekeeping; breakfast service transition

• Location: Near Nishi-Shinjuku-gochome subway; allow roughly 15–20 minutes to walk to Shinjuku station.

• Rooms: Refreshed in 2024; doubles start at 15 square metres, with larger kitchenette categories available.

• Cleanliness: Strong overall feedback across sites, with occasional bathroom-odor reports rather than widespread cleanliness complaints.

• Service: Helpful, courteous staff are a recurring strength, though some guests report unclear housekeeping guidance.

• Amenities: In-room washer-dryers, microwaves and refrigerators; kitchenettes depend on room category.

• Fees and surprises: Simple cleaning must be requested; full cleaning is weekly on longer stays, and the old breakfast menu was scheduled to end in September 2026.
