Axel's take: 8.0/10

Choose it for beach access and welcoming staff, not cutting-edge luxury. An established upscale beachfront hotel, scored for what it is.

Renaissance Tel Aviv is an established upscale beachfront hotel whose strongest luxury is its position: directly beside the sand, with the promenade and city restaurants close by. We'd choose it for a beach-and-city stay rather than a design-led escape. Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise welcoming staff, comfortable rooms and the generous breakfast; Booking.com also scores cleanliness strongly. Sea-view balconies add to the appeal.

The trade-off is an unevenly refreshed property. Guests describe renovated rooms alongside older-looking public spaces, and the gym and pool area attract requests for updating. Ask for a renovated room and confirm the view category. The pool is indoors, with Expedia listing an early closing time. We'd skip it if polished, contemporary luxury or evening pool time matters more than immediate beach access.

• Best for: Beach-and-city breaks; Travelers who prioritize friendly service; Marriott regulars with lounge access

• Watch out for: Unevenly refreshed interiors; Indoor pool with limited hours; Paid parking with limited availability

• Location: Direct beach and promenade access, with restaurants within walking distance.

• Rooms: Comfortable balcony rooms; guests recommend requesting a renovated room and checking the view category.

• Cleanliness: A consistent strength, supported by strong Booking.com and Expedia cleanliness ratings.

• Service: Recent reviews repeatedly praise helpful staff, particularly the lounge team.

• Amenities: Indoor pool, gym and well-liked breakfast; Expedia lists pool hours as 8:30 a.m.–5 p.m.

• Fees and surprises: Parking costs extra and is subject to availability; room upgrades do not automatically include lounge benefits.
