Axel's take: 8.1/10

A strong beach-and-city base, with welcoming staff but important pool restrictions. A traditional mid-range city hotel a short walk from the beach, scored for what it is.

Metropolitan is a traditional mid-range city hotel near the beach, not a luxury seafront resort. We'd pick it for exploring Tel Aviv on foot: the promenade, restaurants and central shopping are close, and Tripadvisor and Booking.com guests repeatedly praise the welcoming staff and varied breakfast. Recent feedback generally supports clean, comfortable rooms, though the building's age still shows. It's a practical choice if location and friendly service matter more than polished design.

The main catch is the swimming pool. The hotel currently limits in-season opening to Thursday–Saturday, while Expedia lists a seasonal closure starting October 19; confirm availability before booking. Room categories also matter: the smallest singles are just 13 square meters, and guest feedback suggests decor varies. Parking costs extra and depends on availability. We'd skip it for a pool-focused holiday or consistently contemporary rooms.

• Best for: Beach-and-city sightseeing; Couples prioritizing location; Travelers who value friendly service

• Watch out for: Seasonal pool with restricted opening days; Smallest single rooms are compact; Paid parking is not guaranteed

• Location: A short walk from the beach and promenade, with central shops and restaurants nearby.

• Rooms: Generally comfortable, but decor varies; compact singles measure 13 square meters.

• Cleanliness: Broadly positive across sites, though not uniformly praised.

• Service: Welcoming, helpful staff are a recurring strength in guest reviews.

• Amenities: Breakfast, restaurant, gym and free Wi-Fi; pool availability needs checking directly.

• Fees and surprises: Parking is charged and subject to space; official and Expedia pool calendars differ.
