Axel's take: 8.3/10

A strong city base, with compact rooms and breakfast-room bottlenecks. an upscale city hotel on Rothschild Boulevard, scored for what it is.

Rothschild 22 is an upscale city hotel whose biggest asset is its address: restaurants, bars and neighborhood exploring start outside the door. We'd pick it for a couple's city break or business trip rather than a resort-style stay. Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise the location, comfortable beds and helpful reception staff, while cleanliness is generally well rated. Higher-floor rooms add city views, and there's a gym and business lounge.

Choose the room category carefully: entry-level Boutique rooms are just 16 square meters, and the hotel confirms that room windows don't open. Breakfast earns praise, but crowding and waits recur in guest feedback; noise and maintenance also draw some complaints. We'd skip it if spacious rooms, fresh-air ventilation or reliably peaceful breakfasts matter more than being in the middle of town.

• Best for: couples exploring restaurants and nightlife; business travelers; city breaks without a car

• Watch out for: small entry-level rooms and sealed windows; breakfast crowding and occasional noise; limited paid parking; later Saturday check-in

• Location: Excellent for walking to restaurants, nightlife and Carmel Market; this is a city address, not beachfront.

• Rooms: Boutique rooms are 16 square meters; most higher categories are 23, and windows do not open.

• Cleanliness: Generally a strength across guest ratings, despite occasional housekeeping complaints.

• Service: Reception earns frequent praise, though some guests report slow responses or check-in hiccups.

• Amenities: Gym, business lounge and spa treatments at neighboring Bachar House; confirm lounge access with your room category.

• Fees and surprises: Building parking is paid, Friday–Saturday only, and requires advance coordination; Saturday and holiday-evening check-in starts at 18:00.
