#3 of 3 hotels in Coogee by Axel's take. Coogee is #9 of 11 places to stay in Sydney. The best hotels in Coogee, ranked · Where to stay in Sydney

Axel's take: 8.2/10

Comfortable beachside pub rooms, provided nightlife matters more than an early night. A refurbished 3-star pub hotel opposite Coogee Beach, scored for what it is.

Coogee Bay Hotel’s Pub Style accommodation is a refurbished 3-star stay above a busy seaside pub, not the separate Boutique hotel. It’s a strong pick for beach days and evenings out: Coogee Beach is across the road, with restaurants and coastal walks close by. Booking.com’s accommodation ratings are strong, while recent Hotels.com guests praise comfortable beds, clean rooms and helpful reception staff. The hotel’s own Bay Rooms page confirms refreshed interiors and private bathrooms.

The compromise is sleep. Guests across Tripadvisor and Hotels.com describe music, pub crowds and street noise; this isn’t simply an occasional weekend nuisance. Rooms are stairs-only, and check-in is around the corner at 9 Vicar Street. Some glowing booking-site reviews describe Boutique upgrades, so don’t assume the same experience. We’d choose it for a sociable coastal break and skip it for light sleepers or anyone needing step-free access.

  • Best for: Beachgoers who enjoy nightlife; Couples on a casual coastal break; Travelers happy staying above a pub

  • Watch out for: Music, crowds and street noise; Stairs-only room access; Separate Boutique building is not equivalent

  • Location: Opposite Coogee Beach, with dining and coastal walks close by.

  • Rooms: Refurbished Bay Rooms have private bathrooms; some categories have shared balconies.

  • Cleanliness: Strong Booking.com cleanliness scores, supported by recent Hotels.com guest comments.

  • Service: Recent accommodation guests repeatedly praise friendly, helpful reception staff.

  • Amenities: Bars, dining and a beer garden are the main attractions; confirm amenities for your specific room.

  • Fees and surprises: Parking costs extra and spaces are limited; reception is at 9 Vicar Street.
