Axel's take: 7.3/10
Good downtown value, but train noise and parking-lot work make quiet stays a gamble. A basic 3-star downtown motor hotel with exterior-access rooms, scored for what it is.
Steam Plant is a basic 3-star motor hotel with exterior-access rooms, not a polished boutique retreat. It’s a good-value base for Spokane’s downtown theaters, restaurants and Riverfront Park. Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise the helpful staff and convenient location, and most describe clean, comfortable rooms. Mini-fridges, microwaves and included parking make the practical side appealing.
The main compromise is sleep: passing trains, thin walls and upstairs footsteps recur in reviews. Room condition varies, with worn carpets and some recent housekeeping complaints alongside plenty of positive reports. September 2026 Expedia guests also describe parking-lot construction, morning noise and replacement parking across the street; confirm whether work continues. Breakfast means a short walk to Rosie’s and covers only two guests per room. A mandatory nightly amenity fee further tempers the value. We’d skip it for light sleepers or anyone expecting consistently polished rooms.
