Axel's take: 8.6/10

A strong riverfront pick for families, with room location key to quieter nights. a casual mid-range riverfront hotel near Gonzaga and downtown, scored for what it is.

Ruby River is a casual mid-range riverfront hotel whose outdoor spaces give it an edge over a standard city stay. We'd pick it for Gonzaga visits, family trips and easy access to the Centennial Trail. Recent Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise clean rooms, comfortable beds and helpful staff. Free parking, Osprey's riverside dining and the hotel's newly opened, year-round heated infinity pool strengthen the appeal.

The main trade-off is quiet: several guests describe noisy poolside rooms during busy group stays, while restaurant service can slow down. Rooms are comfortable rather than upscale, and the spread-out buildings make room assignment important, especially if you need elevator access. Request a room away from the pool for better odds of rest. Factor in the nightly resort fee; we'd skip it if guaranteed peace matters more than family-friendly facilities.

• Best for: families who will use the pools; Gonzaga visitors; travelers with dogs

• Watch out for: poolside noise during busy group stays; restaurant waits at busy times; nightly resort fee

• Location: Direct Centennial Trail access beside the river, near Gonzaga and within walking distance of downtown.

• Rooms: Generally comfortable, with some small bathrooms; confirm elevator access and room location before arrival.

• Cleanliness: Strong overall feedback, including repeated praise in recent Expedia reviews.

• Service: Friendly, helpful hotel staff are a consistent strength; restaurant pacing is less reliable.

• Amenities: Outdoor pools, a year-round heated infinity pool, hot tub, playground, dog park and riverside restaurant.

• Fees and surprises: Parking is free; Expedia lists a nightly resort fee and dog charges, and the hotel requires an incidental authorization hold.
