Axel's take: 8.3/10

A strong resort-style base, provided you don't need downtown on your doorstep. An upscale 4-star golf and convention resort across the river from downtown Savannah, scored for what it is.

This upscale 4-star resort on Hutchinson Island works best when you want Savannah sightseeing with genuine downtime. The riverfront pool, golf course and spa give it more to offer than a downtown sleeping base, while the complimentary ferry makes crossing to River Street part of the appeal. Recent Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise welcoming staff, river views and comfortable stays. We'd choose it for a pool-and-city break or a convention next door.

The trade-off is separation from the historic district: spontaneous walks to restaurants become ferry trips or drives. Some recent guests report dated bathrooms, worn linens or missed housekeeping, although cleanliness feedback remains strongly positive overall. A nightly resort fee and separate parking charges also dilute value. We'd skip it for a walking-first city weekend or if consistently polished luxury is the priority.

• Best for: Families mixing pool time with sightseeing; Golf and spa breaks; Convention attendees

• Watch out for: Ferry or drive required for downtown; Resort fee plus parking charges; Some room wear and housekeeping inconsistencies

• Location: Riverfront on Hutchinson Island beside the convention center; complimentary ferry connects to downtown.

• Rooms: Comfortable beds and appealing river-view options; some recent guests flag dated bathrooms and worn linens.

• Cleanliness: Strong overall guest ratings, with occasional reports of missed room servicing rather than a broad cleanliness problem.

• Service: Friendly, helpful staff are a recurring strength across recent Expedia and Tripadvisor feedback.

• Amenities: Heated outdoor pool, golf, spa and fitness facilities; spa and gym are at the clubhouse, and the pool bar is currently listed as seasonally closed.

• Fees and surprises: Nightly resort fee, paid self-parking or valet, and additional dog fees; no hotel airport shuttle.
