Axel's take: 8.5/10

A distinctive riverfront luxury stay, provided nightlife matters more than guaranteed quiet. A luxury riverfront hotel spread across three buildings in a lively entertainment district, scored for what it is.

This luxury riverfront hotel anchors an entertainment district, with a converted power plant, museum-like fossil displays and three differently styled buildings. It's a strong pick for travelers who want Savannah's waterfront, restaurants and nightlife on their doorstep. Recent Expedia guests repeatedly praise cleanliness, welcoming staff and comfortable rooms, while Tripadvisor guests highlight the river views and distinctive design. The rooftop pool and spa give it more substance than just an impressive lobby.

The main compromise is sleep: Tripadvisor reviews repeatedly describe intrusive nighttime music, with management acknowledging the problem. Service earns plenty of praise, but reports of delayed rooms and uneven problem handling matter at this level. Expedia also lists a mandatory destination fee; parking and breakfast cost extra. We'd choose it for an energetic weekend, but skip it for a reliably quiet luxury retreat.

• Best for: Couples planning a lively weekend; Riverfront sightseeing without a car; Travelers who enjoy distinctive hotel design

• Watch out for: Nighttime music can reach guest rooms; Mandatory destination fee and paid parking; Occasional service and check-in inconsistencies

• Location: On River Street's western waterfront, convenient for dining and historic-district walks; Marriott lists 500 West River Street.

• Rooms: Comfortable, individually styled accommodation across three buildings; river views appeal, but noise exposure matters.

• Cleanliness: A consistent strength in recent Expedia reviews and Marriott's guest ratings.

• Service: Recent guests frequently praise friendly staff, though Tripadvisor also records check-in and problem-handling lapses.

• Amenities: Rooftop pool, Poseidon Spa, fitness facilities and numerous restaurants and bars.

• Fees and surprises: Mandatory destination fee; valet parking, standard breakfast and dog stays carry additional charges.
