Axel's take: 8.5/10

Excellent beachfront facilities, with service that can fall short of the luxury setting. A five-star beachfront resort with extensive pools and family-friendly activities, scored for what it is.

The St. Regis Longboat Key is a five-star beachfront resort whose strongest assets are its spacious rooms, Gulf setting and extensive water attractions. The lazy river, marine-life lagoon and oceanfront spa give it substance beyond the polished interiors. Expedia guests are overwhelmingly positive about cleanliness and staff, while Tripadvisor reviews also regularly praise the beach and personal touches. It’s a strong pick for families wanting a luxury resort with plenty to do on-site.

The reservation is consistency: Tripadvisor and Reddit guests describe slow dining service and uneven butler follow-through alongside excellent experiences. Those lapses matter at this level. Busy breakfasts and competition for pool loungers can also interrupt the relaxation. Expect a nightly resort fee and separate valet charges. We’d skip it if flawless service or an especially quiet, adult-focused atmosphere is your priority.

• Best for: Families seeking a luxury beach resort; Travelers who enjoy pools and on-site activities; Couples prioritizing beach and spa time

• Watch out for: Uneven dining and butler service; Busy breakfasts and pool-lounger competition; Resort fee and separate valet charges

• Location: Directly on Longboat Key’s Gulf beach; best suited to a resort-centered stay.

• Rooms: Spacious, contemporary rooms with private terraces; check the booked view category carefully.

• Cleanliness: A clear strength, with consistently enthusiastic feedback across Expedia and Tripadvisor.

• Service: Many guests praise thoughtful staff, but dining speed and butler follow-through are less consistent.

• Amenities: Extensive pools, lazy river, marine-life lagoon, oceanfront spa, fitness center and multiple restaurants.

• Fees and surprises: Expedia lists a nightly resort fee; valet parking, breakfast and pet stays carry additional charges.
