Axel's take: 6.9/10

Useful kitchens and free parking, but room condition makes this a cautious budget pick. a no-frills 2-star motel on North Tamiami Trail, scored for what it is.

Regency Inn & Suites is a no-frills 2-star motel, best considered a practical base for drivers rather than a beach getaway. Free parking, an outdoor pool and suites with proper cooking facilities give it useful budget appeal, especially for longer stays. Expedia guests often praise helpful staff and clean rooms, while Booking.com’s overall verdict is more modest. We’d consider it for an inexpensive Sarasota stop with realistic expectations.

The catch is consistency. Recent Tripadvisor guests report musty or cigarette odors and disappointing bathroom cleanliness, although other travelers describe clean, comfortable rooms. The hotel advertises renovated accommodation without dating the work; don’t assume everything feels fresh. A refundable damage deposit also applies. We’d skip it if dependable housekeeping or a polished room matters more than kitchen facilities and keeping costs down.

• Best for: budget travelers with a car; longer stays needing a kitchen; airport and Ringling-area visits

• Watch out for: uneven room condition and housekeeping; musty or cigarette odors reported; refundable damage deposit

• Location: Convenient for the airport and Ringling Museum; plan to drive to the main beaches.

• Rooms: Standard rooms have fridges and microwaves; suites add kitchens, but condition varies.

• Cleanliness: Many guests find rooms clean, but recent odor and bathroom complaints warrant caution.

• Service: Helpful staff earn praise, though some recent guests report difficulty getting problems resolved.

• Amenities: Outdoor pool, free Wi-Fi, free parking and guest laundry; the hotel describes the pool as heated.

• Fees and surprises: A refundable damage deposit applies; confirm cancellation terms for your booking.
