Axel's take: 7.8/10

A strong Jardins base, with excellent staff but uneven rooms and exterior renovation. An upscale, suite-style city hotel in Jardins, rather than a true luxury five-star, scored for what it is.

Radisson Oscar Freire is an upscale, suite-style city hotel whose strongest luxury is its Jardins location. We'd choose it for walking to restaurants and designer shops, with the metro nearby. Booking.com and Expedia guests repeatedly praise the helpful staff, comfortable rooms and breakfast; overall feedback is solidly positive. Think practical comfort in a desirable neighborhood rather than a polished five-star experience.

Room condition is the catch: the hotel advertises renovated categories, while recent Expedia and Tripadvisor guests describe a mix of refreshed and tired accommodation. Request a renovated room explicitly. More importantly, Expedia lists exterior renovation from August 18, 2026 through December 31, 2027, with possible disturbance and a changeable completion date. Valet parking costs extra. We'd skip it for a quiet special occasion or if consistently luxurious surroundings matter more than location.

• Best for: Shopping and dining in Jardins; Business travelers who value walkability; City breaks with metro access

• Watch out for: Exterior renovation scheduled through December 2027; Renovated and older rooms differ; Valet parking costs extra

• Location: Excellent for Oscar Freire shopping and restaurants; the metro is about five minutes away.

• Rooms: Several renovated suite categories measure 32 square meters; older rooms attract condition complaints.

• Cleanliness: Generally well rated across Booking.com and Expedia, without a dominant recurring cleanliness problem.

• Service: Helpful staff are a consistent strength, although some Tripadvisor guests report slow problem handling.

• Amenities: Indoor pool, gym, sauna, restaurant and buffet breakfast; more city-hotel practical than resort-like.

• Fees and surprises: Paid valet parking; Expedia lists exterior works from August 2026 through December 2027.
