Axel's take: 8.3/10

A dependable Paulista base with excellent access, but uneven five-star polish. a five-star city hotel on Avenida Paulista, stronger on convenience than luxury, scored for what it is.

Meliá Paulista is a five-star city hotel we'd choose for its location and helpful staff rather than lavish luxury. Opposite Consolação metro, it makes a practical base for sightseeing and business. Booking.com and Expedia guests consistently praise the location, comfortable beds and welcoming service; breakfast also earns frequent compliments. The heated indoor pool and children's facilities give families reasons to choose it, too.

The main caveat is consistency between room categories: Booking.com distinguishes classic rooms from refurbished options, so check exactly what you're reserving. Management announced renovations extending into 2026, and a July guest praised a renovated room, but completion isn't confirmed. Recent reviews also flag breakfast crowding and a small, tired gym. We'd skip it for a special-occasion luxury stay; for a well-connected city base, it's a strong pick.

• Best for: first-time São Paulo visitors; business travelers around Paulista; families wanting an indoor pool

• Watch out for: classic and refurbished rooms differ; breakfast can get crowded; small gym with reported equipment wear

• Location: Opposite Consolação metro, with Paulista's shops, restaurants and cultural sights nearby.

• Rooms: Comfortable beds draw praise; verify whether your category is classic or refurbished.

• Cleanliness: Generally well rated across Booking.com and Expedia, despite some housekeeping complaints.

• Service: Friendly, attentive reception and restaurant teams are recurring strengths.

• Amenities: Heated indoor pool, children's pool, spa, restaurant and kids' facilities; gym gets mixed feedback.

• Fees and surprises: Parking costs extra; breakfast depends on your booking. Renovations were scheduled through 2026, with completion unconfirmed.
