Axel's take: 8.0/10

Good downtown value, with generous breakfasts and some distinctly dated rooms. a simple 3-star hotel in São Paulo’s historic center, scored for what it is.

Dan Inn Planalto is a simple 3-star downtown hotel that makes sense for shopping trips and practical city stays. We'd pick it for value rather than polish: São Bento metro and Rua 25 de Março are nearby, breakfast is included, and recent Tripadvisor and Expedia guests regularly praise helpful staff, comfortable beds and clean rooms.

The trade-offs are an aging building and uneven room condition, with repeated mentions of old air-conditioning. Expedia and Tripadvisor guests also describe crowded breakfasts and elevator queues, especially during events. Guests advise caution with belongings around the hotel; we'd favor rides after dark rather than casual wandering. It's a solid budget-conscious base, but we'd skip it for a quiet, polished getaway or a neighborhood suited to relaxed evening strolls.

• Best for: budget-conscious downtown stays; Rua 25 de Março shopping trips; travelers using the metro

• Watch out for: dated rooms and older air-conditioning; elevator queues and crowded breakfasts; caution needed on surrounding streets

• Location: Convenient for downtown shopping and São Bento metro; guests advise keeping belongings secure nearby.

• Rooms: Generally comfortable but variable in condition, with older air-conditioning repeatedly mentioned.

• Cleanliness: Mostly positive across Booking.com and Expedia, though recent guests report occasional housekeeping lapses.

• Service: Helpful staff are a recurring strength, despite some reports of uneven reception service.

• Amenities: Included breakfast, restaurant, free Wi-Fi and 24-hour reception; event crowds can strain elevators.

• Fees and surprises: No hotel parking; a recent Expedia guest reports using a separately paid garage next door.
