#5 of 6 hotels in Liberdade by Axel's take. Liberdade is #6 of 10 places to stay in Sao Paulo. The best hotels in Liberdade, ranked · Where to stay in Sao Paulo

Axel's take: 7.5/10

Good for exploring Liberdade on a budget, but housekeeping needs more consistency. A no-frills budget hostel with dorms and private rooms in Liberdade, scored for what it is.

Hostel Liberdade is a no-frills hostel, not a conventional two-star hotel, with shared dorms and private rooms. We'd consider it for a short, budget-minded visit: Japão–Liberdade metro, neighborhood restaurants and Cine Joia are close by, and helpful staff are a consistent strength across Booking.com, Hostelworld and Tripadvisor. The shared kitchen adds practical value if you're keeping spending down.

The main reservation is uneven housekeeping. Overall cleanliness ratings remain respectable on Booking.com and Expedia, but guests on Expedia and Hostelworld describe dirty bedding or grubby facilities in 2025. Shared bathrooms also mean choosing your room carefully; don't assume a private bedroom includes a private bathroom. Some travelers feel uncomfortable in the surrounding streets after dark. It's a reasonable base for independent explorers, but we'd skip it if spotless facilities or hotel-style privacy are priorities.

  • Best for: Solo travelers on a budget; Exploring Liberdade by metro; Short stays near Cine Joia

  • Watch out for: Recurring housekeeping complaints; Shared bathrooms in some room categories; Mixed comfort with the area after dark

  • Location: Excellent access to Liberdade's food, shops and metro; guests differ on how comfortable nearby streets feel at night.

  • Rooms: Mixed, male and female dorms plus private rooms and suites; confirm the bathroom arrangement before booking.

  • Cleanliness: Generally positive aggregate ratings, tempered by repeated 2025 complaints about bedding and facilities.

  • Service: Friendly, helpful reception is one of the most consistent positives across review sites.

  • Amenities: Shared kitchen and free Wi-Fi; the official site advertises complimentary laundry, but check that it is working.

  • Fees and surprises: Booking.com lists towel and out-of-hours arrival/departure charges; confirm linen inclusion because its wording conflicts.
