Axel's take: 6.9/10

Central convenience and good breakfasts, but tired rooms make this a compromise. An older, no-frills downtown business hotel, scored for what it is.

Gran Villagio is an older, no-frills downtown business hotel opposite Rua Avanhandava’s restaurants. It’s a reasonable pick for a short, location-first stay, rather than somewhere to expect polished comfort. Expedia and Hotels.com guests repeatedly praise the spacious rooms, helpful staff and varied breakfast buffet. The central address is its strongest selling point; room condition is its weakest.

Recent reviews across Tripadvisor, Expedia and Hotels.com describe dated bathrooms, maintenance problems and inconsistent housekeeping—not just old-fashioned decor. Guests also report elevator queues, sometimes with a lift out of service, and unreliable Wi-Fi. October 2026 feedback mentions gradual upgrades, but don’t assume your room has been refreshed. Parking costs extra, and its arrangements deserve confirmation. We’d skip it if dependable cleanliness, modern bathrooms or reliable work connectivity matter more than location.

• Best for: Budget-conscious downtown visitors; Short, location-first stays; Travelers dining around Rua Avanhandava

• Watch out for: Dated bathrooms and uneven housekeeping; Elevator queues and unreliable Wi-Fi; Gradual upgrades; room condition varies

• Location: Central address opposite Rua Avanhandava’s restaurants, with metro stations within walking distance.

• Rooms: Often spacious, but dated bathrooms, worn furnishings and maintenance faults recur in reviews.

• Cleanliness: Many satisfactory stays, but repeated recent housekeeping complaints undermine consistency.

• Service: Helpful, welcoming staff earn frequent praise, though problem handling is uneven.

• Amenities: Buffet breakfast, restaurant, free Wi-Fi and substantial meeting facilities; connectivity gets mixed feedback.

• Fees and surprises: Parking is charged separately; confirm arrangements and ask whether your room has been updated.
