Axel's take: 6.6/10

Worth considering for the location, but tired rooms and closed facilities limit its appeal. a basic, older budget hotel near Paulista Avenue, scored for what it is.

Carillon Plaza is a basic, older budget hotel near Paulista Avenue, best treated as a practical base rather than somewhere to linger. We'd consider it for a short, location-first stay: Expedia and Booking.com guests regularly praise the helpful staff, and free parking is useful in this part of São Paulo. Recent feedback includes clean, comfortable stays, but the overall picture remains mixed.

The recurring compromises are dated rooms, uneven maintenance and a basic breakfast. Recent guests mention uncomfortable bedding and bathrooms needing attention; parking access also draws criticism. The hotel's booking page confirms the pool is closed for renovation and there are no whirlpool baths, despite some amenity listings. Booking.com also lists reception renovations, with work from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.; confirm the situation before booking. We'd skip it if polished rooms or a working pool matter.

• Best for: budget travelers prioritizing location; short sightseeing stays; drivers wanting included parking

• Watch out for: pool closed for renovation; listed reception works; dated rooms and uneven maintenance

• Location: Convenient for Paulista Avenue, Consolação and Rua Augusta; consistently the strongest guest-rated feature.

• Rooms: Simple, air-conditioned rooms; recent complaints include bedding comfort and maintenance.

• Cleanliness: Many guests report clean rooms, though carpet-related complaints keep the picture uneven.

• Service: Helpful, friendly staff receive repeated praise across booking sites.

• Amenities: Free Wi-Fi, 24-hour reception, breakfast and parking; pool closed and no whirlpool baths.

• Fees and surprises: Parking is included but access draws complaints; Booking.com lists daytime reception renovation work.
