Axel's take: 8.2/10

A good-value, garden-set base where friendly service outweighs dated rooms. a simple 3-star aparthotel with gardens and a pool in Escalón, scored for what it is.

Novo is a simple 3-star aparthotel in Escalón, best chosen for practical comfort rather than contemporary style. Its gardens, outdoor pool and suites with basic kitchens make it appealing for families and longer stays. Recent Expedia guests repeatedly praise clean rooms, helpful staff and a peaceful atmosphere; Tripadvisor guests also single out the service. We'd call it a strong value-minded base if you don't need polished interiors.

The trade-off is an older property: room-condition complaints appear across sites, and one recent Tripadvisor guest reported a lingering musty smell. Breakfast generally pleases, though some guests want more variety. There is no elevator, and exploring the historic center means arranging transport rather than stepping outside into it. Skip it if modern finishes, step-free access or sightseeing on foot are priorities.

• Best for: value-minded families; longer stays with a kitchenette; travelers with a car

• Watch out for: dated rooms and occasional musty-room reports; no elevator; transport needed for historic-center sightseeing

• Location: Escalón base near Monumento al Salvador del Mundo; plan transport for the historic center.

• Rooms: Suites offer sitting and dining space, basic kitchens and terraces; furnishings show their age.

• Cleanliness: Recent reviews are predominantly positive, despite isolated mustiness and maintenance complaints.

• Service: Friendly, attentive staff are the most consistent strength across guest-review sites.

• Amenities: Outdoor pool, gardens, restaurant, included breakfast, Wi-Fi and free self-parking.

• Fees and surprises: Official direct-booking prices exclude taxes; airport transfers cost extra, and there is no elevator.
