Axel's take: 8.1/10

Friendly service and breakfast make this simple hotel a solid neighborhood base. a small, no-frills 3-star in Antiguo Cuscatlán, scored for what it is.

Hotel Alicante is a small, no-frills 3-star in Antiguo Cuscatlán, better suited to a practical city stay than a pampering escape. We'd pick it for the personal service, included breakfast and convenient access to UCA and nearby shopping centers. Recent Expedia guests repeatedly praise the helpful staff and clean rooms, while the hotel's own site confirms a pool, restaurant and air-conditioned accommodation. For travelers who prefer a homey atmosphere to a large chain, it makes a convincing case.

The trade-off is an older property with straightforward rooms rather than modern polish. Some guests mention street noise and firm mattresses, and there's no elevator. Parking descriptions conflict across booking sites, so confirm arrangements before bringing a car. We'd skip it if quiet nights, step-free access throughout or contemporary rooms are priorities.

• Best for: travelers who value personal service; visitors to UCA and Antiguo Cuscatlán; families wanting a simple hotel with a pool

• Watch out for: street noise in some rooms; firm mattresses; no elevator

• Location: In Colonia La Sultana, Antiguo Cuscatlán, convenient for UCA, Multiplaza and local eateries.

• Rooms: Simple, individually furnished rooms with air conditioning and private bathrooms; some guests find beds hard.

• Cleanliness: Generally a strength in recent guest feedback, with praise for daily housekeeping.

• Service: Warm, helpful staff are the most consistent reason guests recommend it.

• Amenities: Included breakfast, outdoor pool, restaurant, bar and free Wi-Fi.

• Fees and surprises: Airport transfers cost extra; confirm parking because listings disagree, and request a ground-floor room if needed.
