Axel's take: 8.8/10

A strong pick for clean rooms and friendly service, with noise the main caveat. a small, straightforward 3-star hotel in San Benito, scored for what it is.

Hotel Citlalli is a small, straightforward 3-star in San Benito, and a strong pick if you want comfort rather than resort facilities. Booking.com and Expedia guests consistently praise the cleanliness, helpful staff and location near restaurants and cafés. Comfortable beds, good showers and a cooked-to-order breakfast make it a particularly appealing base for travelers spending their days exploring.

The main compromise is noise: several guests mention nearby nightlife or sound carrying between rooms, although others report quiet stays. Requesting a garden-facing room is sensible, not a guarantee. There is no elevator, and the historic center requires a ride rather than a stroll. We'd skip it if undisturbed sleep, step-free access throughout or extensive facilities matter more than a welcoming, well-located base.

• Best for: couples seeking a simple city base; travelers prioritizing cleanliness and service; restaurant and café explorers

• Watch out for: nightlife noise and limited soundproofing; no elevator; historic center requires transport

• Location: San Benito/Zona Rosa, with restaurants, cafés and the art museum within walking distance.

• Rooms: Simple, air-conditioned rooms; beds and showers earn praise, but sound insulation varies.

• Cleanliness: A consistent strength across Booking.com and Expedia, including recent reviews.

• Service: Repeated praise for friendly, helpful staff and assistance arranging transport.

• Amenities: Cooked-to-order breakfast, free Wi-Fi and parking, plus a garden and terrace.

• Fees and surprises: Late checkout costs extra; confirm late arrival directly because Expedia lists restricted check-in hours.
