Axel's take: 8.4/10

A dependable downtown base with generous rooms, helpful staff and some dated edges. A straightforward 3-star downtown hotel beside a casino, scored for what it is.

Sleep Inn Paseo Las Damas is a straightforward 3-star downtown hotel beside Casino Club Colonial, and a strong pick for a short San José stay. Booking.com, Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise clean, spacious rooms, helpful staff and the included breakfast. Museums, parks and central sights are walkable, while free parking adds practical value. We'd choose it for comfortable basics rather than style.

The trade-offs are older interiors, several reports of noisy air-conditioning and street-facing rooms, and surroundings some guests find uncomfortable after dark. Ask for a quieter room if sleep matters. Booking.com guests reported renovation work and carpet replacement in May–June 2026; completion is unconfirmed, so check before booking. We'd skip it for a polished retreat or carefree late-night strolling.

• Best for: Short downtown sightseeing stays; Travelers prioritizing space and practical value; Drivers wanting included parking

• Watch out for: Dated interiors and some noisy air-conditioning; Street noise and nighttime surroundings; Confirm whether reported renovation work is finished

• Location: Central for museums, parks and pedestrian shopping; some guests feel less comfortable outside after dark.

• Rooms: Spacious, air-conditioned rooms with microwaves and fridges; older décor and noise draw some complaints.

• Cleanliness: A consistent strength across recent reviews, despite occasional individual complaints.

• Service: Friendly, helpful reception and breakfast staff earn repeated praise across sites.

• Amenities: Included buffet breakfast, free Wi-Fi and parking, gym, garden, Magnolia restaurant and adjacent casino.

• Fees and surprises: Expedia lists a paid, limited-hours airport shuttle; confirm arrangements and renovation status directly.
