Axel's take: 6.9/10

Go for Escalante’s restaurants and friendly staff, not quiet nights or polished rooms. a simple budget hotel in Barrio Escalante’s restaurant district, scored for what it is.

Luz de Luna is a simple budget hotel whose strongest asset is its Barrio Escalante address: cafés, bars and restaurants are an easy walk away. We’d consider it for a short, location-first stay rather than a comfortable retreat. Recent guests repeatedly praise the helpful staff, and the included breakfast earns plenty of compliments. Private bathrooms, free Wi-Fi and a small garden sitting area cover the basics.

The compromise is inconsistent room quality. Expedia guests and Booking.com reviews reproduced on Planet of Hotels describe tired furnishings, uncomfortable mattresses and bathroom maintenance issues, alongside positive reports of clean, comfortable stays. Nearby trains and street noise are recurring complaints, not isolated grumbles. Guests also report rooms without air-conditioning or fans, and parking is cramped. We’d skip it for light sleepers or anyone who needs reliably well-maintained rooms.

• Best for: budget travelers exploring Escalante; restaurant and nightlife outings; short, location-first stays

• Watch out for: train and street noise; uneven room condition and cleanliness; cramped parking and no elevator

• Location: Walkable access to Escalante’s cafés, restaurants and bars is the main attraction.

• Rooms: Basic and often described as tired; mattress comfort varies, and guests report no air-conditioning or fans.

• Cleanliness: Many guests find rooms clean, but recent bathroom and stained-linen complaints recur across sources.

• Service: Friendly, helpful staff are a consistent strength; the hotel advertises 24-hour reception.

• Amenities: Included breakfast, private bathrooms, free Wi-Fi, café and garden/common sitting space.

• Fees and surprises: Parking is free but tight; airport transfers cost extra, and there is no elevator—confirm access needs directly.
