Axel's take: 8.7/10

A strong airport stopover with helpful staff, comfortable beds and a breakfast worth having. A practical 3-star airport hotel in Alajuela, scored for what it is.

This practical 3-star in Alajuela is a strong pick for the first or last night of a Costa Rica trip. Recent Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise clean rooms, comfortable beds and genuinely helpful staff. The included hot breakfast gets unusually enthusiastic feedback for an airport chain hotel, while the free 24-hour airport shuttle makes awkward flight times easier. An outdoor pool adds something useful beyond a bed between flights.

The main compromise is noise: guests on Tripadvisor and Trip.com mention aircraft, road traffic and the neighboring railway, although many still report sleeping well. Light sleepers should request a room away from the road and railway. There is no on-site restaurant, though Denny’s is nearby. We'd choose it for airport convenience, not a quiet retreat or a walkable base for central San José.

• Best for: Late arrivals and early departures; Families starting or ending a trip; Travelers collecting or returning rental cars

• Watch out for: Aircraft, road and railway noise; No on-site restaurant; Not a central San José sightseeing base

• Location: Minutes from SJO in Alajuela, with nearby rental-car offices; better for flights than city sightseeing.

• Rooms: Straightforward rooms with well-reviewed beds; noise exposure varies.

• Cleanliness: A consistent strength across Booking.com, Expedia and recent Tripadvisor feedback.

• Service: Guests repeatedly praise friendly staff, practical help and convenient airport transfers.

• Amenities: Outdoor pool, gym, free Wi-Fi and included hot breakfast; request early-departure snacks ahead.

• Fees and surprises: Airport shuttle and guest parking are complimentary; Expedia lists charges for early check-in and late checkout.
