Axel's take: 7.9/10

Historic character and warm staff, but renovations make room choice important. a historic five-star city hotel overlooking Campo Grande, scored for what it is.

Hotel da Bahia by Wish is a historic five-star city hotel whose modernist architecture and Brazilian art give it more personality than a standard business stay. It’s a good pick for exploring Salvador rather than spending every day at the beach. Tripadvisor and Hotels.com guests repeatedly praise the welcoming staff, comfortable beds and generous breakfast; overall guest ratings remain strong.

The catch is consistency: older rooms attract recurring criticism for dated finishes and maintenance, falling short of polished five-star expectations. Phased upper-floor renovations were still confirmed by management in October 2026, and an August response acknowledged restaurant work temporarily relocating breakfast. Ask specifically for a renovated room and check which works affect your dates. Parking costs extra. We’d skip it for a beach-first holiday or an occasion demanding reliably seamless luxury.

Best for: architecture and art enthusiasts; city sightseeing; business travelers
Watch out for: ongoing phased renovations; uneven condition in older rooms; paid parking; not beachfront
Location: Opposite Campo Grande, useful for city exploring rather than direct beach access.
Rooms: Comfortable beds and generous space earn praise; renovated and older rooms differ noticeably.
Cleanliness: Generally strong ratings, with some recent housekeeping lapses rather than a uniformly poor record.
Service: Friendly, helpful staff are the clearest recurring strength across review sites.
Amenities: Outdoor pools, gym, spa and restaurants; breakfast variety regularly earns praise.
Fees and surprises: Parking is extra; confirm renovation impacts and breakfast arrangements before arrival.
