#8 of 9 hotels in Flamengo & Catete by Axel's take. Flamengo & Catete is #1 of 6 places to stay in Rio de Janeiro. The best hotels in Flamengo & Catete, ranked · Where to stay in Rio de Janeiro

Axel's take: 7.8/10

A convenient Rio base with good breakfast, but room quality varies. a practical mid-range city hotel in Catete, with a rooftop pool, scored for what it is.

Royal Regency Palace is a practical mid-range city hotel in Catete, not a beachfront resort. It’s a good pick for exploring Rio by metro, with Largo do Machado and Catete stations nearby and shops and restaurants around it. Booking.com and Expedia guests regularly praise breakfast, location and helpful staff; the rooftop pool adds somewhere to unwind after sightseeing.

The reservation is room consistency. Recent Tripadvisor and Expedia reviews include repeated reports of tired fittings, damp or moldy smells and uneven housekeeping, alongside plenty of comfortable, clean stays. Some rooms also get little daylight, and Wi-Fi attracts criticism. We’d choose it for a transit-friendly sightseeing trip rather than polished surroundings; travelers sensitive to damp or expecting reliably upscale rooms should look elsewhere.

  • Best for: metro-based sightseeing; travelers prioritizing breakfast and location; families needing triple or quadruple rooms

  • Watch out for: uneven room upkeep and reports of damp; limited daylight in some rooms; inconsistent Wi-Fi

  • Location: Walkable Catete base near two metro stations and Flamengo Park; not on Copacabana beachfront.

  • Rooms: Comfort varies: some guests praise the beds, while others describe dated, dark or poorly ventilated rooms.

  • Cleanliness: Broadly positive ratings, but recurring recent complaints about damp, stained linen and housekeeping deserve attention.

  • Service: Usually praised as friendly and helpful, though problem handling is not uniformly consistent.

  • Amenities: Breakfast buffet, rooftop outdoor pool, restaurant and gym; don't expect resort-scale facilities.

  • Fees and surprises: The official site lists limited paid parking, while Expedia says none is available; confirm directly before bringing a car.
