Hotels in Rio de JaneiroA no-frills 3-star near Copacabana Beach
8.3/10
A strong budget base near Copacabana, with helpful staff and a few practical compromises.
Hotel Diplomata is a no-frills 3-star a short walk from Copacabana Beach, rather than a beachfront hotel. It's a strong pick for travelers who want a convenient base without paying for extras. Booking.com and Expedia guests consistently praise the location, helpful staff and generally clean rooms. Several 2026 guests on Expedia and Tripadvisor also describe renovated accommodation. The included breakfast is straightforward but usually gets the job done.
The trade-offs are practical: Wi-Fi receives weaker feedback than the hotel's other basics, and room-condition reports still vary despite the renovation praise. Tripadvisor guests repeatedly describe a tiny elevator that stops below the sixth floor, so confirm your room's access if stairs are a problem. We'd choose it for beach days and sightseeing, but skip it if reliable work connectivity, guaranteed step-free access or polished interiors are priorities.

Best for: budget-conscious beach visitors; couples prioritizing location; sightseers wanting a simple base
Watch out for: variable Wi-Fi performance; tiny elevator; reported stairs to sixth floor; uneven room-condition feedback
Location: A short walk from Copacabana Beach, restaurants and Cardeal Arcoverde metro; not beachfront.
Rooms: Basic air-conditioned rooms with minibars; recent renovation praise, but some dated-room complaints remain.
Cleanliness: Strong overall feedback, especially on Expedia, outweighs scattered housekeeping complaints.
Service: Helpful reception staff are a consistent strength; the desk operates around the clock.
Amenities: Included buffet breakfast, free Wi-Fi and luggage storage; facilities are modest.
Fees and surprises: No on-site parking; confirm elevator access and late-arrival arrangements before booking.
