#2 of 2 hotels in Midtown by Axel's take. Midtown is #2 of 7 places to stay in Reno. The best hotels in Midtown, ranked · Where to stay in Reno

Axel's take: 5.5/10

Convenient for a cheap stopover, but upkeep and cleanliness are too inconsistent. An older, no-frills 2-star Econo Lodge motel on South Virginia Street, scored for what it is.

This older, no-frills 2-star Econo Lodge is a practical Reno stopover, not a dependable vacation base. Free parking, nearby restaurants and shops, and rooms with patios or balconies are its strongest selling points. Recent Expedia guests often praise helpful staff, while Tripadvisor reviewers describe some refreshed flooring and furnishings. We'd consider it only for a short, budget-first stay.

The improvements haven't made standards consistent. Recent guests across Expedia and Trip.com report uneven cleaning, smoke smells, noise and malfunctioning air conditioning or fixtures, alongside others finding clean, comfortable rooms. The outdoor pool is still advertised by Choice, but guests repeatedly reported it closed in 2025 and summer 2026; don't book for swimming. We'd skip it for a family vacation or if reliable cleanliness and quiet matter more than saving money.

  • Best for: Budget-first overnight stops; Drivers wanting free parking

  • Watch out for: Inconsistent cleaning and maintenance; Smoke smells and noise; Pool repeatedly reported closed

  • Location: South Virginia Street offers nearby dining and shopping; downtown and the convention center are a drive away.

  • Rooms: Some refreshed interiors and patios or balconies, but recurring complaints about cooling, fixtures and soundproofing.

  • Cleanliness: Highly uneven: recent guests report both clean rooms and dirty surfaces or lingering smoke smells.

  • Service: Helpful, friendly staff receive frequent praise, though problem handling is not consistently good.

  • Amenities: Free parking and Wi-Fi, restaurant and laundry; confirm breakfast and pool availability directly.

  • Fees and surprises: A deposit and matching-name chip-enabled credit card are required; no elevator, according to Expedia.
