Unscripted is a retro mid-range boutique hotel in the former Jack Tar motor lodge, and its strongest selling point is downtown Durham on your doorstep. We'd consider it for a short, sociable stay: restaurants, DPAC and Bulls baseball are walkable, while the rooftop pool gives it more personality than a standard business hotel. Booking.com and Expedia guests repeatedly praise the location and friendly staff.
The trade-offs are room choice and consistency. Some interior rooms have no windows, and poolside music makes this a risky choice for light sleepers. Recent reviews include plenty of clean, comfortable stays, but recurring reports of musty smells, worn finishes and uneven housekeeping keep it from being an easy recommendation.
