Axel's take: 8.0/10

A strong family pick where indoor fun matters more than four-star polish. a family-focused 4-star resort-style hotel in Sainte-Foy, scored for what it is.

L’Hôtel Québec is a family-focused 4-star in Sainte-Foy, and we'd choose it for keeping children entertained rather than for luxury. Its tropical indoor pool, splash area and seven-story playground make the hotel itself part of the vacation. Booking.com and Expedia guests repeatedly praise the family amenities and friendly staff; recent feedback also generally supports clean, comfortable rooms. Free parking helps if you're exploring by car.

The trade-off is atmosphere: children and poolside entertainment make this a lively stay, especially around the indoor garden. Some recent Expedia guests describe aging décor and maintenance niggles, so expect practical comfort rather than polished four-star finishes. We'd request a room away from the pool for earlier bedtimes. Skip it for a quiet couples' escape or a sightseeing trip centered on walking around Old Québec.

• Best for: families with young children; weatherproof activity breaks; travelers exploring by car

• Watch out for: noise around the pool-facing rooms; aging décor and occasional maintenance issues; not a walkable Old Québec base

• Location: Sainte-Foy base near shopping and the aquarium; better suited to driving than Old Québec sightseeing on foot.

• Rooms: Varied family layouts, including Murphy beds and some kitchenettes; check the exact configuration before booking.

• Cleanliness: Generally positive recent feedback, though occasional housekeeping complaints remain.

• Service: Friendly, helpful staff are a recurring strength across Booking.com and Expedia.

• Amenities: Indoor pool, splash area, hot tub, seven-story playground, scheduled entertainment and an on-site restaurant.

• Fees and surprises: Free parking; breakfast and arcade games cost extra, a deposit applies, and Expedia lists check-in from 5 p.m.
