Axel's take: 8.7/10

A characterful neighborhood base, provided you choose your room carefully. a small, independent 3-star inn outside Old Québec, scored for what it is.

Auberge Aux deux Lions is a small, independent 3-star inn that makes a strong alternative to staying inside Old Québec’s walls. Booking.com and Expedia guests repeatedly praise the cleanliness, comfortable beds and helpful hosts. Nearby restaurants, shared kitchens and inviting sitting areas make it especially appealing for travelers who prefer a neighborhood base to a full-service hotel.

Choose the room carefully: standard rooms can be compact, some are partly below ground, and bathroom layouts vary. There’s no elevator, reception isn’t staffed around the clock, and the hotel’s eight paid parking spaces need reserving. Breakfast costs extra; confirm arrangements ahead rather than assuming a morning spread. We’d pick it for a walking-focused city break, but skip it if stairs, limited reception hours or a small room would spoil your stay.

  • Best for: couples on a city break; restaurant-focused travelers; independent sightseers

  • Watch out for: stairs and no elevator; compact rooms and varied bathroom layouts; limited paid parking

  • Location: Outside the old walls, with restaurants nearby and Old Québec within walking distance.

  • Rooms: Comfortable beds and individual character; check room size, floor and bathroom configuration.

  • Cleanliness: A consistent strength across Booking.com and recent Expedia reviews.

  • Service: Hosts earn frequent praise, but on-site reception hours are limited; arrange late arrivals.

  • Amenities: Shared kitchens, sitting areas, outdoor terraces and free Wi-Fi suit independent stays.

  • Fees and surprises: Parking and breakfast cost extra; reserve parking and confirm breakfast arrangements.
