#2 of 6 hotels in Petit Champlain & Old Port by Axel's take. Petit Champlain & Old Port is #2 of 6 places to stay in Quebec City. The best hotels in Petit Champlain & Old Port, ranked · Where to stay in Quebec City

Axel's take: 9.1/10

Personal service and spotless rooms make this Old Port boutique a strong pick. a small, independent 4-star boutique hotel in Québec City's Old Port, scored for what it is.

Hôtel des Coutellier is a small, independent 4-star in the Old Port, and we'd choose it for thoughtful hospitality rather than grand-hotel facilities. Recent Tripadvisor and Expedia guests consistently praise spotless rooms, comfortable beds and genuinely helpful staff. Its 24 rooms and suites make for an intimate base near the train station and waterfront, with Old Québec's sights within walking distance. The included continental breakfast, delivered outside your door, is a particularly well-liked touch.

The compromises are practical: reaching Upper Town means an uphill walk, parking costs extra in a lot across the street, and breakfast is a simple bag of pastries, yogurt and juice rather than a cooked spread. Some entry-level rooms are compact. We'd skip it if you want extensive facilities or an Upper Town address; for couples and rail travelers, it's an excellent fit.

  • Best for: couples exploring Old Québec; travelers arriving by train; cruise passengers staying before departure

  • Watch out for: uphill walk to Upper Town; paid parking across the street; simple continental breakfast, not a hot buffet

  • Location: Handy for Gare du Palais, the waterfront and Lower Town; Upper Town requires a climb.

  • Rooms: Comfortable beds and thoughtful amenities; Classic rooms are smaller than Superior rooms and suites.

  • Cleanliness: A standout strength, repeatedly praised by recent Tripadvisor and Expedia guests.

  • Service: Warm, helpful staff earn unusually consistent praise across review sites.

  • Amenities: Included breakfast delivered to the door, a gym, luggage storage and Légende restaurant next door.

  • Fees and surprises: Parking is charged separately at the Samson lot opposite; collect the parking ticket from reception.
