Axel's take: 7.8/10

Good beach-holiday value, but dining and service fall short of five-star polish. a lively beachfront all-inclusive with five-star billing, rather than true luxury, scored for what it is.

Caribe Deluxe Princess is a lively beachfront all-inclusive with five-star billing, but we'd choose it for a good-value beach holiday rather than luxury. Its strongest assets are the beachfront setting, tropical grounds, spacious rooms and plentiful activities. Booking.com and Expedia give cleanliness solid marks, while recent guests frequently praise individual staff members. Three pools, children's facilities and an ice-cream shop make it an appealing family option.

The compromises are consistency and calm. Recent Expedia and Tripadvisor guests disagree sharply on food quality, and restaurant service and maintenance follow-through draw repeated criticism. Pool entertainment can be loud, with weekend crowding another recurring complaint. À la carte dinners require reservations, and premium restaurants, drinks and some services cost extra unless your package includes them. We'd skip it for a quiet romantic retreat or reliably polished five-star service.

• Best for: families wanting pools and beach time; value-minded all-inclusive travelers; groups who enjoy lively entertainment

• Watch out for: uneven food and service; loud pool entertainment and weekend crowds; VIP benefits and other paid extras

• Location: Directly on Bávaro's beachfront; sprawling grounds have complimentary internal transport.

• Rooms: Spacious rooms renovated before the September 2021 reopening; some guests report unresolved maintenance issues.

• Cleanliness: Generally a strength: Booking.com scores cleanliness 8.6/10 and Expedia 8.4/10, despite some exceptions.

• Service: Many warm, helpful staff mentions, but restaurant service and problem resolution are inconsistent.

• Amenities: Three pools, kids' water park, clubs, gym and entertainment; the casino is at Grand Bávaro Princess, not onsite.

• Fees and surprises: Standard all-inclusive excludes premium dining, premium drinks, spa treatments, bowling and room service; package inclusions vary.
