6.8/10
Worth considering for Playa Coral, but upkeep and inconsistent basics limit the appeal.
Villa Mexicana is a basic, aging 3-star beach hotel in Bacocho, best judged as a simple base for Playa Coral rather than a polished resort. We'd consider it for the ocean views, beach access and air-conditioned rooms. Expedia and Hotels.com guests often praise helpful staff and clean rooms, while Booking.com's overall rating is good rather than outstanding.
The trade-off is uneven upkeep: recent reviews repeatedly describe tired facilities, towel shortages and shower problems. The official site advertises remodeled rooms, but that doesn't establish a property-wide refresh; an Expedia guest reported remodeling during an August 2026 stay, so confirm whether work continues. The descent to the beach can be rough, and breakfast generally costs extra. We'd skip it if you need easy beach access, reliably attentive service or consistently well-maintained facilities.

Best for: budget-minded beachgoers; travelers prioritizing ocean views; unfussy stays near Playa Coral
Watch out for: tired facilities and inconsistent shower water; rough beach descent and limited towels; remodeling reported in August 2026; confirm current status
Location: Bacocho setting with access to Playa Coral and walkable restaurants; the beach descent is not effortless.
Rooms: Simple air-conditioned rooms; guests report dated fittings and occasional water-pressure or temperature problems.
Cleanliness: Many guests praise clean rooms, but pool cleanliness and overall maintenance receive mixed feedback.
Service: Helpful staff earn frequent praise, although towel supply and front-desk responsiveness are inconsistent.
Amenities: Two outdoor pools, free parking, public-area Wi-Fi and 24-hour reception are listed.
Fees and surprises: Breakfast usually costs extra; guests report stained-towel charges, and recent remodeling needs checking.
