Axel's take: 7.3/10

A practical budget base with helpful staff, but little polish and no air-conditioning. a no-frills budget hotel near République and Canal Saint-Martin, scored for what it is.

Absolute is a no-frills budget hotel near République and Canal Saint-Martin, best treated as somewhere to sleep between days exploring Paris. We'd consider it for the location and straightforward value rather than the design. Booking.com and Trip.com guests repeatedly praise the helpful staff, convenient metro access and generally clean rooms. Free Wi-Fi, a lift and round-the-clock reception cover the practical basics.

The compromises are small, sometimes tired rooms, recurring reports of noise and maintenance niggles, and no air-conditioning—a meaningful drawback in summer. Some guests also report bathroom drain smells. Don't book specifically for the street-art bedrooms shown online: recent guests say some have been painted mostly white. Breakfast packages can involve a nearby café rather than an in-house spread. It's a reasonable short-stay choice for undemanding travelers; we'd skip it for a quiet retreat or reliably comfortable hot-weather stay.

• Best for: budget-conscious city explorers; short stays near République; travelers prioritizing metro access

• Watch out for: no air-conditioning; noise and uneven room upkeep; some rooms differ from promotional photos

• Location: Near Canal Saint-Martin, with République and Goncourt metro stations a short walk away.

• Rooms: Basic and often compact; dated finishes, noise and minor maintenance issues recur in reviews.

• Cleanliness: Generally praised, although bathroom odors and occasional housekeeping lapses are reported.

• Service: Friendly, helpful staff are a consistent strength; reception operates around the clock.

• Amenities: Free Wi-Fi and a lift; the hotel explicitly says it has no adapted rooms for guests with reduced mobility.

• Fees and surprises: Breakfast costs extra unless included and may be served at a nearby café; no on-site parking.
