Axel's take: 8.6/10

A strong family pick for space and convenience, provided you can forgive dated furnishings. a practical 3-star condo resort with two-bedroom suites, scored for what it is.

Vista Mirage is a practical 3-star condo resort rather than a full-service hotel, and it's a strong pick for families wanting room to spread out. Every suite has two bedrooms, two bathrooms and a full kitchen. Booking.com and Expedia guests repeatedly praise the space, cleanliness and helpful staff; two outdoor pools, hot tubs and barbecue grills make staying in appealing. Groceries are walkable, while downtown is an easy drive rather than right outside.

The compromise is condition: Tripadvisor guests repeatedly describe worn sofas, older furnishings and small maintenance problems, and recent Google reviews reproduced on the resort's website include some ant reports. Those complaints don't outweigh the broadly positive feedback, but they temper expectations. There are no elevators, and reception closes at 10 p.m. We'd skip it for contemporary interiors, round-the-clock service or a doorstep downtown location.

• Best for: families wanting separate bedrooms; friends sharing a self-catering stay; longer stays with a car

• Watch out for: dated furnishings and recurring maintenance niggles; stairs to upper-floor units; recent ant reports in some units

• Location: Walkable groceries and casual dining; downtown is better reached by car.

• Rooms: Spacious two-bedroom, two-bathroom condos with full kitchens; furnishings can be worn.

• Cleanliness: Strong overall guest feedback, tempered by some recent ant and housekeeping complaints.

• Service: Staff receive consistent praise; arrange arrivals after 10 p.m. in advance.

• Amenities: Two outdoor pools, hot tubs, tennis, a gym, putting green, grills and shared laundry.

• Fees and surprises: Parking and Wi-Fi are free; check resort-fee inclusion and expect an incidental deposit.
