#2 of 6 hotels in Downtown by Axel's take. Downtown is #2 of 5 places to stay in Palm Springs. The best hotels in Downtown, ranked · Where to stay in Palm Springs
Axel's take: 8.5/10
A strong downtown value with a proper pool scene, not luxury polish. a refreshed, budget-friendly retro hotel with a motel-style layout in downtown Palm Springs, scored for what it is.
The Dunes is a budget-friendly, motel-style hotel with retro character and a downtown location that makes walking to restaurants and shops easy. Refreshed in 2024, it earns our recommendation for getting the essentials right: recent Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise clean rooms, comfortable beds and welcoming staff. The pool, hot tub and inviting communal spaces give it more holiday appeal than a basic overnight stop, while included parking adds practical value.
Expect refreshed rather than flawless: guests still mention dated details, dim room lighting and occasional noise. Morning coffee, fruit and granola are useful extras, not a full breakfast, and there’s no full bar. Expedia lists swimming-pool renovations for November 2–3, 2026; confirm access before booking those dates. We'd skip it for luxury service or immaculate finishes, but it's a strong pick for an easygoing downtown break.
-

-
