Axel's take: 7.0/10

Worth revisiting after renovation, but not a stay you can book right now. A sprawling historic 4-star resort, currently closed for renovation, scored for what it is.

The Riviera is a sprawling historic 4-star resort with an appealing pool-focused setup, but it is currently closed for major renovation. Expedia lists the closure as June 1–December 31, 2026; the regional tourism board expects reopening in early 2027. Before closing, it was a decent rather than dependable upscale choice: Expedia guests repeatedly praised the pools, comfortable beds and friendly staff, while Booking.com feedback was more mixed.

The sticking point was consistency. Across Booking.com, Tripadvisor and Trip.com, guests described worn furnishings, maintenance problems and uneven housekeeping or check-in, alongside plenty of enjoyable stays. Those shortcomings mattered at this class. We'd keep it on the list for a future pool break, but skip it for current travel and wait for post-renovation reviews before expecting polished luxury. This verdict reflects the pre-closure hotel, not the untested makeover.

  • Best for: Future pool-focused getaways; Travelers interested in historic resorts

  • Watch out for: Closed through December 2026; reopening timing may change; Post-renovation experience remains untested; Previously uneven room condition and upkeep

  • Location: North of the downtown core, with some restaurants nearby; useful for exploring by car.

  • Rooms: Pre-closure guests praised comfortable beds but repeatedly flagged worn furnishings and maintenance faults.

  • Cleanliness: Many guests reported clean rooms, but housekeeping and carpet condition were inconsistent before closure.

  • Service: Friendly staff earned substantial praise, offset by recurring check-in delays and uneven problem handling.

  • Amenities: The official site advertises two pools, Spa Santé, a fitness center and dining; unavailable during closure.

  • Fees and surprises: Expedia lists a resort fee and daily incidental deposit; reconfirm policies and reopening dates before booking.
