Axel's take: 8.2/10

Dependable grand-hotel comfort, with helpful staff but less convenient sightseeing and chargeable swimming. a large, traditional luxury hotel in Nakanoshima, scored for what it is.

RIHGA Royal is a large, traditional luxury hotel in Nakanoshima, strongest on comfortable rooms, attentive service and extensive dining rather than doorstep nightlife. Its 2025 renovation brought a substantial refresh, and Booking.com and Expedia guests consistently praise cleanliness, generous room sizes and helpful staff. We'd pick it for a quieter Osaka base or a conference stay, particularly if you appreciate having plenty of restaurants under one roof.

The trade-offs matter at this level. Some recent guests still find the rooms dated, so check the specific category rather than assuming identical finishes throughout. Nakanoshima Station connects directly, and the free Osaka Station shuttle helps, but this isn't a walk-out-into-Dotonbori location. Pool and sauna access normally costs extra unless you're on a Club floor; tattoo and child-access restrictions also apply. We'd skip it for nightlife-first trips or luxury where the main facilities are included.

• Best for: conference and business travelers; travelers who prefer a quieter base; fans of traditional grand hotels

• Watch out for: less convenient for Dotonbori nightlife; room finishes vary by category; pool charges and access restrictions

• Location: Direct Nakanoshima Station connection and free Osaka Station shuttle; less central for nightlife.

• Rooms: Generally spacious and comfortable; the 2025 refresh hasn't eliminated every dated-room complaint.

• Cleanliness: A consistent strength across Booking.com, Expedia and recent Tripadvisor feedback.

• Service: Helpful staff and concierge service draw repeated praise, despite occasional complaints about rigid procedures.

• Amenities: Extensive dining, a free 24-hour fitness center and an indoor swimming club.

• Fees and surprises: Parking costs extra; pool and sauna are normally chargeable outside Club floors, with tattoo and age restrictions.
