#3 of 8 hotels in Universal City & Bay Area by Axel's take. Universal City & Bay Area is #8 of 8 places to stay in Osaka. The best hotels in Universal City & Bay Area, ranked · Where to stay in Osaka

Axel's take: 8.9/10

A strong Universal Studios base, with roomy accommodation and consistently praised cleanliness. a family-focused 4-star beside Universal Studios Japan, scored for what it is.

Hotel Universal Port is a family-focused 4-star that gets the theme-park essentials right: a short walk to Universal Studios Japan, generously sized rooms and bathrooms with separate bathing and toilet areas. Expedia and Ikyu guests repeatedly praise cleanliness, helpful staff and the varied breakfast buffet. Minion decorations extend the park atmosphere into the hotel without requiring a themed-room booking. We'd put it high on the list for a family park break.

The trade-off is location: we'd choose somewhere more central for an Osaka food-and-nightlife trip. Some guests note aging finishes, although maintenance generally earns strong marks. Rico Rico suspends dinner service from November 9, 2026, with dinner available at sister hotel Port Vita instead. The hotel also closes overnight on January 6, 2027, for fire-system work; Rico Rico remains closed January 7.

Best for: families visiting Universal Studios Japan; travelers wanting larger rooms; Minions fans
Watch out for: less convenient for central Osaka nightlife; Rico Rico dinner suspended from November 9, 2026; overnight closure January 6, 2027
Location: Walkable to USJ, CityWalk and Universal City station; best suited to park-focused stays.
Rooms: Spacious layouts and separate bathing areas are strengths; some finishes show their age.
Cleanliness: A consistent highlight across recent Expedia and Ikyu reviews.
Service: Usually praised as helpful and accommodating, with occasional check-in delays.
Amenities: Popular breakfast buffet, themed cafe and bar, shops, laundry facilities and luggage storage.
Fees and surprises: Parking and breakfast cost extra unless included; check the announced restaurant and January closure dates.
