Axel's take: 8.5/10

A strong family pick for pools and park convenience, with some wear showing. a retro-themed, mid-range family resort at Universal Orlando, scored for what it is.

Cabana Bay is a retro-themed, mid-range family resort that delivers plenty for the money. Two outdoor pools, a lazy river, bowling and family suites with kitchenettes make it more than somewhere to sleep between park visits. Expedia and Booking.com guests repeatedly praise the friendly staff, cleanliness and convenient park transportation. We'd pick it for a Universal trip that leaves time for pool afternoons.

The trade-offs are scale and polish: rooms can mean long walks to the lobby, and recent Tripadvisor reviews describe check-in queues, crowding and uneven upkeep. Room wear also appears in otherwise enthusiastic Expedia reviews. Parking and breakfast cost extra, and Express Unlimited isn't included. We'd skip it for a quiet couples' escape. Also plan around neighboring Volcano Bay's maintenance closure beginning October 26, 2026, with reopening currently planned on or before April 1, 2027.

• Best for: families visiting Universal; pool-loving travelers; larger families needing kitchenette suites

• Watch out for: long walks and busy common areas; room wear and uneven upkeep; Volcano Bay closure from October 26, 2026

• Location: Convenient Universal base with complimentary park buses and a walking path to neighboring Volcano Bay.

• Rooms: Simple retro rooms; family suites sleep up to six with kitchenettes, but some furnishings show wear.

• Cleanliness: Strong overall guest ratings, though Tripadvisor includes reports of inconsistent room cleaning.

• Service: Friendly staff earn frequent praise; check-in queues and delayed room readiness recur in reviews.

• Amenities: Two outdoor pools, lazy river, waterslide, bowling, arcade and gym offer plenty beyond the parks.

• Fees and surprises: Parking, breakfast, bowling and lazy-river tubes cost extra; Express Unlimited is not included.
