Axel's take: 9.2/10

Exceptional hospitality and breakfast make this simple boutique hotel worth the walk. a simple, design-minded boutique hotel on the edge of Oaxaca’s center, scored for what it is.

Hotel con Corazón is a simple, design-minded boutique hotel on the edge of Oaxaca’s center, and a strong pick for travelers who value hospitality over luxury extras. Booking.com, Expedia and Tripadvisor guests consistently praise its cleanliness, helpful staff and excellent vegetarian breakfasts. Leafy patios and terraces add welcoming shared space, while the hotel says its profits support local education. That mission complements an already convincing stay.

The main compromise is location: guests describe roughly 12–20 minutes’ walking to central sights, rather than stepping straight into the busiest streets. Noise can reach some rooms, particularly downstairs, and there’s no elevator. Choose carefully, too: the Round and Compact rooms measure just nine square meters. We’d skip it if you need step-free access, generous entry-level room space or the most central address.

  • Best for: couples who value breakfast and service; socially conscious travelers; independent city explorers

  • Watch out for: 12–20-minute walk to central sights; noise in some lower-floor rooms; no elevator; smallest rooms are tiny

  • Location: Walkable to the center, but outside its busiest sightseeing streets.

  • Rooms: Simple garden-facing rooms; Round and Compact categories are only nine square meters.

  • Cleanliness: A consistent strength across Booking.com, Expedia and Tripadvisor feedback.
