Hotels in NegrilA simple, independent beachfront hotel with budget-level rooms
7.3/10
A good beachfront base if location matters more than updated rooms.
Shields Negril Villas is a simple, independent beachfront hotel, not a polished villa resort. We'd consider it for an affordable beach stay within walking distance of Negril's shops and restaurants. Expedia and Booking.com guests repeatedly praise the location and friendly staff, and recent Expedia reviews generally describe clean rooms. The pool and direct beach access are its strongest extras.
The compromise is upkeep: dated furnishings, hard beds and maintenance needs recur across reviews. Early-2026 guests reported hurricane-related roof repairs and unavailable facilities; summer reviews describe the pool and swim-up bar operating again, though bar hours can be inconsistent. Expedia also lists an optional housekeeping charge, so don't assume daily cleaning and fresh towels are included. It's a good fit for independent beachgoers; we'd skip it if modern rooms, reliable full-service dining or resort-level consistency are priorities.

Watch out for: dated rooms and hard beds; inconsistent bar and dining availability; daily housekeeping may cost extra
Location: Direct beach access, with town shops and restaurants within walking distance.
Rooms: Basic, aging rooms; bed comfort and maintenance draw recurring criticism.
Cleanliness: Recent Expedia feedback is mostly positive, but daily cleaning is not assured.
Service: Friendly, helpful staff are a consistent strength across booking sites.
Amenities: Pool and swim-up bar appear operational in summer-2026 reviews; confirm dining hours.
Fees and surprises: Expedia lists optional paid housekeeping and no after-hours check-in; confirm arrival arrangements and remaining repairs.
