Axel's take: 8.3/10

A strong beach-first all-inclusive, with friendly staff and dining reservations worth planning ahead. an upscale, family-friendly beachfront all-inclusive on Bloody Bay, scored for what it is.

Riu Palace Tropical Bay is an upscale, family-friendly all-inclusive whose strongest luxury is its setting on Bloody Bay. We'd pick it for easy beach days rather than cutting-edge rooms or exclusive surroundings. Recent Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise the clear, calm water, spacious clean rooms and welcoming staff. Pools, a kids' club, entertainment and round-the-clock food and drink make it a practical choice for mixed-age groups.

The main catch is specialty dining: guests on both sites describe reservations as necessary, and Tripadvisor reviewers repeatedly struggle to find availability. The buffet generally satisfies, though food enthusiasm varies. Some rooms could use a refresh, so don't mistake the Palace name for flawless luxury. We'd skip it for a secluded, adults-only escape or if choosing dinner spontaneously is important.

Best for: families and mixed-age groups; couples who prioritize the beach; travelers wanting an easy all-inclusive
Watch out for: limited specialty-restaurant reservations; some rooms need a refresh; family activities rather than adults-only seclusion
Location: Directly on Bloody Bay's sandy beachfront, outside central Negril.
Rooms: Spacious rooms with balconies and sitting areas; some guests note cosmetic wear.
Cleanliness: A consistent strength across Tripadvisor, Expedia and Booking.com feedback.
Service: Friendly, attentive staff earn repeated praise, particularly in bars and restaurants.
Amenities: Pools, swim-up bar, kids' club, gym, spa, water sports and evening entertainment.
Fees and surprises: Specialty dinners require reservations despite being included; Expedia lists gratuities as included and extra tips as optional.
