Axel's take: 8.0/10

A strong all-inclusive for lively holidays, not quiet luxury. a large, family-friendly beachfront all-inclusive, more lively than luxurious, scored for what it is.

Riu Negril is a large, family-friendly all-inclusive on Bloody Bay, and we'd choose it for an active beach holiday rather than polished five-star luxury. Its December 2024 overhaul refreshed the rooms and public spaces. Recent Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise cleanliness, enthusiastic entertainment staff and the generous buffet selection. Pools, children's activities and evening shows give families and sociable groups plenty to do without leaving the property.

The trade-offs are noise and uneven execution. Food gets more mixed feedback than its variety suggests, and guests report frustrating specialty-restaurant reservations and occasional service lapses. Several Tripadvisor reviews also describe repeated false fire alarms disrupting sleep. Beach swimmers should temper expectations: seaweed and murkier water draw complaints. We'd skip it for a peaceful honeymoon, consistently refined dining or easy walks into town.

Best for: families wanting activities and entertainment; sociable groups; travelers prioritizing all-inclusive convenience
Watch out for: lively atmosphere and reported false fire alarms; specialty-restaurant booking frustrations; variable beach-water clarity
Location: Beachfront on Bloody Bay, but isolated from town shops and restaurants.
Rooms: Refurbished in December 2024; spaciousness and comfortable beds earn recurring praise.
Cleanliness: A consistent strength across Expedia and Tripadvisor, despite occasional housekeeping misses.
Service: Entertainment and restaurant staff draw praise; reception and problem handling are less consistent.
Amenities: Multiple pools, children's activities, gym, spa and extensive dining suit a resort-based holiday.
Fees and surprises: Spa treatments and excursions cost extra; specialty dining availability can disappoint.
