Hotels in Myrtle BeachA budget oceanfront hotel with kitchenettes, not a full-service resort
5.5/10
Beach access is the draw, but unfinished renovations and unreliable basics undermine the stay.
Palette is a budget oceanfront hotel, not the polished resort its name suggests. Its strongest selling points are direct beach access and ocean-view rooms. Recent Expedia guests often praise helpful staff, comfortable beds and some refreshed rooms, so improvements are showing. But the overall picture across Expedia, Booking.com and Tripadvisor remains below what even a simple beachfront hotel should deliver.
Guests were still reporting substantial renovations in September 2026, alongside uneven cleaning, worn kitchens and missing cookware. The hot tub and gym have also been reported unavailable during the work; confirm their status before booking. Free parking often means crossing the street. We'd consider it only for a short, beach-focused stay with modest expectations, and skip it for a family vacation where dependable facilities and cleanliness matter most.

Best for: Budget travelers prioritizing beach access; Short stays with modest expectations
Watch out for: Ongoing renovations and uncertain facility availability; Inconsistent cleaning and room maintenance; Under-equipped kitchenettes
Location: Direct beach access, with restaurants and convenience stores nearby; parking is often across the street.
Rooms: Some refreshed rooms and comfortable beds, but recurring appliance, door and kitchenette problems.
Cleanliness: Clean-room praise coexists with repeated reports of dirty floors, bathrooms and linens.
Service: Recent guests frequently praise front-desk staff, though housekeeping and problem resolution remain uneven.
Amenities: Pools and a lazy river are reported in use; hot-tub and gym availability needs confirmation during renovations.
Fees and surprises: Expedia lists a nightly resort fee and damage deposit; renovation work was still reported in September 2026.
