Axel's take: 8.8/10

A strong airport luxury pick, with standout hospitality rather than cutting-edge rooms. a traditional five-star airport hotel with landscaped gardens, scored for what it is.

The Leela Mumbai is a traditional five-star airport hotel with gardens that give it more breathing room than most business hotels. We'd choose it for a comfortable stopover or work trip: Tripadvisor and Expedia guests consistently praise the attentive staff, clean, spacious rooms and generous breakfast. The outdoor pool, spa and substantial restaurant choice make staying on-site appealing rather than merely convenient.

The trade-off is polish versus freshness. Some guests find the rooms and décor dated, although the broader feedback remains strongly positive on comfort and upkeep. This is an airport base, not our first choice for a sightseeing-focused Mumbai holiday. Check whether breakfast and airport transfers are included in your booking, and request a non-smoking room if smoke bothers you. We'd skip it if contemporary design or a central sightseeing location matters most.

• Best for: comfortable airport stopovers; business travelers in north Mumbai; travelers who value attentive service

• Watch out for: some rooms feel dated; airport location rather than sightseeing hub; breakfast and transfer inclusions vary

• Location: Convenient for the international airport and nearby metro; less compelling for a sightseeing-first stay.

• Rooms: Spacious and comfortable by guest accounts, with some dated décor; smoking rooms are available.

• Cleanliness: A consistent strength across Tripadvisor and Expedia feedback.

• Service: Warm, helpful staff attract repeated praise across guest-review sources.

• Amenities: Landscaped gardens, outdoor pool, spa, gym and several restaurants make this a full-service property.

• Fees and surprises: Breakfast depends on the package; airport transfers can cost extra, so confirm inclusions.
